Say, Robin - did you know, or work with, Ronnie Dyson? He was in the original B'way cast of "Hair" (among other things, he led the singing of "The Age of Aquarius") and parlayed that into a recording career, with two Top 40 hits (and one that should've been a hit, "Just Don't Want to Be Lonely" in '73); sadly, I've seen him referred to as "the late Ronnie Dyson."

Hi Brie
I would not really want to dispute anything that was written so I could be wrong, but I was led to believe it was aids. Yes he had one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard.
Peace Robin

Thanks for your response So your the guy that sang "Lay a Little Lovin on Me".... I have that 45. I inherited it from cousins that grew up in the 60's and 70's, so for me the whole record thing was a savager hunt. Lots of fun, those little disc's made a sound. I was wondering??? Since you have a successful career, And have work that is classic, What you think about the artist today and if you were young and starting in todays market, what would you do differently in terms of recording, acting , you know the whole marketing thing that today can be TOOOO manufactured and fake. Would YOU be a Justin Timberlake? N Sync? AN EMINEM? Also did you ever know or work with the blue-eyed soul folk that seemed big at that time.. or so it seems from some of the music in the late 60's and 70's eg: Flaming Ember, Lee Micheal's, Rare Earth etc? .... They also had a couple hits, from my studies of that era. I saw Andy Kim not long ago, women were screaming for him. I look forward to seeing you in the future too, maybe in one of the reunion shows. And just think, you can sing you music with dignity.... Justin could no get away with his material of today in 30 years just think of the "wardrobe malfunction" in 2025. Take Care

It would be hard for me to answer your first question, because if I were alot younger & starting out today I guess I would be influenced by what "culture" is doing around me. Also it is funny you mention Rare Earth I did a concert with them & Paul Ravere & the Raiders in Nashville many years ago & Rare Earth is one of the most powerful acts I have ever seen. Peace Robin

I am looking for recordings of Ronnie Dyson -
I never had the pleasure to hear him sing - but I heard from people who had cared for him when he was ill. HE reportedly sang a few bas while waiting for acute hsospital admission in 1989 - he brought the attending staff to tears.

Rare Earth was my first concert, with my parents actually at an outdoor venue in the early 70's. Man they did rock the place.

Robin It so nice to see you about here on your website. I am happy to hear you are well. You look great ! I laughed when I saw the pics of you watching your self sing, Lay A Lil Lovin from back in the day. Your facial expression was fun to watch.
You left quite a legacy during your time with the production ..Hair. That was indeed a meloncoly time in our hearts. Thank you for your contribution to the play and to the music during the sweet times of my youth, our youth. What are some highpoints that stand out in your mind.
Ronnie Dyson really left a legacy. What was he like. Can you tell us a little, please Robin. he did have a voice. Back then, people didnt discuss the taboo issue of AIDS as much as today. If he did pass of AIDS, I think we are in an age where as it is helpful to others in the world by addressing it. Not to be ashamed...This contributes to the battle. Its sad to think of the Broadway and off Broadway talents who have succumed to this terrible flight.
Anyway, on a lighter side, Robin, thatnks again for your music, your talent. You gave us some pleasure, entertainment, if I happen to hear your top ten hit on the radio...hope you dont mind if I sing along.
All the best E

Ronnie Dyson was fabulous. I recall the song "Why can't I touch you", being played on the radio when I was on my way to kindergarten. This was somw 35 years ago. His love in all flavors is a great peace of work too. Also don't let me get started on his cover of Bridge over troubled waters..........

Hi "E" I really appreciate all your kind words, there were many many high points in Hair almost everynight was a high point. If you go back to the "Hair Salon" section of this website & read about the night the cast did a show at Madison square garden that night really sticks out in my mind. Ronnie was a wonderful soul with an amazing talent, I have such fond memories of working with him. I don't mind at all if you sing along as a matter of fact it would be an honor Peace Robin
