Today, July 20, marks the 36th anniversary of humans first setting foot on the surface of another world, the Earth's Moon. Here are some images. www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/ap11ann/kippsphotos/apollo.htmlThis picture is of Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin on the Lunar Module footpad ready to step onto the surface. The Smithsonian Institution's Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. has a moon rock on display you can actually touch. Plus it has many other moon rocks, and also the Apollo 11 Command Module in which the three travellers returned to Earth in. Only 12 men in history walked on the Moon. Alan Sheppard and James Irwin have since passed on. It was only fitting Alan Sheppard get to cherish the prestige of walking on another World, since he was the first American in space, technically t was a sub-orbital filght, John Glenn was the fist American to actually orbit the Earth.

To be accurate, Neil Armstrong did not "set foot" on the surface of the Moon until July 21st.

Hi, This is so interesting ... thanks for posting this. I'd forgotten that today was the anniversary of the landing, and I saw it on TV when it took place. "Do the moonwalk like the astronauts..." (Ron Dante, 1970 Tang commercial) Laura
